The history of Junkanoo goes way back centuries ago to the annual “Celebration of Life” held within Bahamian African Villages. Men, women and children would gather together from 3am to 10am to “rush” or march in beautiful costumes playing cowbells, blowing whistles and horns in time to the bellow and ring of fire-tuned goat skinned drums. Months or preparation, practice and rehearsal resulted in a cultural celebration that is still practised to this very day every year on Boxing Day and New Years.
